Illustrating an emotion

Lesson: Expression

Students were asked to randomly select one emotion out of a "hat." They were to draw anything that expressed that emotion without using the actual word in their art. Once completed, the class had to guess what emotion was expressed.

Understanding 3-Dimensions

Lesson: Graffiti Art

Students were shown examples of 1980's-era graffiti art. They were instructed on how to create block lettering and "bubble" letters and shown how to create shadows giving the illusion of 3-dimensionality.

Color Mixing (using Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, & Black)

Lesson: CMYK

The CMYK color system was explained to the class. A demonstration of how red, green, blue, and orange could be created was shown using acryllic paints. The students were asked to practice mixing CMYK to create as many different colors as possible, and to create paintings using these new founded colors. The pigment white was used to explain value as well.
