Case Study: Developing an Identity >
The Cambria School for the Gifted Child |
The Company: A New York City (Queens)-based private school servicing community children from preschool through 5th Grade, had an existing logo created many years ago.
The Problem: They were opening an additional school, Cambria School of Excellence, that would service grades 6th through 8th. They needed a logo that was distinct from their existing logo so families would not confuse the two schools, yet remeniscent of the current logo so the community would make a connection between the two schools. The colors khaki and yellow were requested to match the new school's uniforms. They also needed a letterhead design.

Newly designed logo for the
Cambria School of Excellence:

The Solution: I kept the use of the pencil, book and circular shape to make a visual connection to the current logo, yet updated the fonts used and emphasized word excellence. In addition I gave the logo more of a "college team patch" look to communicate a higher level of education.
The letterhead was designed using the new logo. Education was emphasized by echoing the book element from the logo.

The client was happy with the results and felt that it accurately reflected their goals for the project, their school's image and was friendly to their target audience. |
